Happy Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day!  Here are a few pictures of Claire in her cute patriotic outfit.  We visited with a friend and her new baby this morning, shopped with Matt for a table and chair set for Claire, and enjoyed some yummy burgers and playtime.

A few pictures from the park last week.  I didn't get any smiles out of Claire for the pictures, but she was very busy and enjoyed herself.  She's starting to climb up into the playground equipment a little and enjoys just walking around outisde!

Funny Little Things

Just a few funny little Claire stories that make me laugh.  I want to record as many of these as I can over the years.  I trust my record keeping better than I trust my memory, so here are a few tidbits.

Claire's friend baby Hannah (six months old) came over to visit the other day.  Claire went and got the tiny bib that goes with her baby doll, laid it on Hannah's tummy, and called her "doll doll doll."  When I picked Hannah up from Claire's old activity mat (the one with the dangling toys), Claire promptly laid down on her back and started batting at the toys--something she would never normally do these days.  Glimpse into the future possibly?

Every time Matt gets home, I say and sign "da-da" for Claire when we hear the garage door opening.  Claire will now say and sign (her variation on the sign is to slap her hand against her head) it back to me.  She has started to ask for Matt in this way when she hears a variety of sounds from an airplane to the air conditioning turning on.  I feel so sad telling her that he's not home yet.

Claire's new word of the week is "hat."  Anything on anyone's head it named "hat."  She had her little baby doll that has a permanent bonnet.  I said, "Claire, where is baby's hat?"  Claire put the doll on her head and announced "hat!"

Now that she is completely weaned, we've tried to start a bedtime ritual that includes books, prayer, and singing a song.  I was concerned that Claire would have a hard time going to bed at night without that last feeding, but it turns out she's ready for bed at bedtime.  She often pushes the books away (well she does this all day but at night she pushes even her favorites away very quickly) and she has started pointing to the crib and signing "nap" while I'm singing to her.  She is sleeping with one blanket in her crib now.  It doesn't ever stay on top of her, but she loves to snuggle up to it before she falls asleep.  It's very sweet!

Claire picked up a paintbrush.  Matt said "Claire, that's a paintbrush."  Claire then started trying to brush her hair with it.

She gets excited over seeing bananas and exclaims "a-ya-ya!"

Claire is lately fascinated with the words and concepts of "up" and "down."  We say these many times each day, going up and down the stairs, raising her hands or an object up, and being picked up or put down.  Claire has been into reading books in her carseat.  Last week she was reading her book on opposites and started saying "up down up down" on the appropriate page!  Claire's doctor was also very impressed with Claire's verbal skills when she heard Claire say "get down" when she wanted me to put her down at our last appointment.

A Few Videos

Our poor little Claire had a virus over the weekend.  Thankfully she bounced back quickly, but we had a few rough days of fever and sore throat.  She was exhausted after several nights of little sleep.  We caught her falling asleep during dinner.

Here is some video of Claire and Brooks on the back porch.  He is one patient cat!  Who needs a petting zoo?

Today I decided to let her be messy and try eating her yogurt by herself.  Between the spoon and her fingers, she managed to empty the bowl, though I'm not sure how much ended up in her tummy!

Funny Faces

As we get ready to welcome Baby Huyser #2, we've spent plenty of time looking back at memories of our little girl when she was not just little, but tiny.  Along the way, we've noticed that she has provided the camera with plenty of unique faces and provided us with plenty of laughs.  Enjoy!
