Fifteen Months

We are having so much fun with our little toddler!  Every few weeks, Matt or I will say "This is my favorite stage."  It just keeps getting better. We just love watching Claire explore and learn and experience new things every day.

Verbally, she seems to have really taken off these past few weeks.  One funny new word is "stuck" ("uck").  Claire declares herself to be stuck many times a day.  Usually, she frees herself or the object rather quickly on her own.  She really enjoys her animal sounds and has added "meow" ("maow") to the list of ones she can say.  Brooks is now known as "at," "book," and "maow."  Her little sentences are usually "bye-bye ____" (dada, cat, etc) but she did say/sign "more banana" the other day.  She has finally started calling me "mama" instead of "ba"!  Other new words include "apple" and "Hannah."  She has added, and particularly emphasizes, the "k" sound to the end of words like "book" and "duck."

Claire is super flexible with her naps.  She is happy to do two naps  with one around 11 and one around 4 or one longer nap starting around 1:30.  Bedtime is between 7:30 and 8:00 and she wakes up in the 7:00 hour.  Her wake up routine now includes the singing of "This is the Day the Lord has Made," "Rise and Shine and Give God the Glory Glory," and "When ___ wake up in the morning," a Kindermusik song that goes through different animals and sounds.  Claire is generally in a good mood when she wakes up, but doesn't like having to be changed right away, so the singing helps.

When he's in town, Matt takes care of the bedtime routine.  Claire still really enjoys brushing her teeth ("tees!" which sounds exactly the same as "cheese" and both involve her pointing in her mouth) and her bath time.  She has started lining her ducks and other toys up along the edge of her little tub.

Claire is still in 18 month sized clothes (though I don't think we'll make in through the summer in all of them) and size 4 diapers.  We have her fifteen month checkup next week.

We've been keeping our summer busy so far, visiting with several friends, going to the zoo, and taking a few trips.  I even took Claire to a puppet show for children this week.  She was great and sat in my lap the whole time.  I think she was more interested in people watching than in the actual puppets!  She thought it was fun to clap when the audience clapped.  We took a trip to Chattanooga this past weekend for my cousin Katelyn's wedding.  Claire had a great time at the reception, visiting with family, and playing with her second cousin Dalton.  She is able to eat off of our plates much more now and enjoyed trying the food at the reception and brunch.  The only downside to the trip was that she decided she would not sleep in her pack-n-play.  We had to resort to driving her around and letting her sleep in the bed and on the couch with us.  Here are some pictures from the weekend.

These last pictures aren't great, but Claire is wearing a pillowcase dress that I made for her.  Thankfully she's cute, because my sewing has a long way to go!

i think the dress is super cute, too. :)

i've found that the more i sew, the more i can just make stuff up and usually it turns out ok in the end. easier than trying to do the math for my number impaired brain anyway.

check out the blogs dana made it, made by rae, liliash and make it and love it for some great ideas/ patterns/ tutorials. sewing for small people is more fun (and faster!) than sewing for big people. :)
