At his four month checkup, Ethan weighed 17 pounds 3 ounces (90th percentile) and measured 25 3/4 inches (75th percentile). Other than our rough week at the hospital, Ethan is in great health. He is a very happy little guy, quick to smile and generally pretty content. He gets his hands into his mouth and is beginning to grab objects and put them into his mouth. He can sit well in the bumbo seat and enjoys the jump-a-roo. He still enjoys being on his back and playing with dangling toys on the playmat. He does not like tummy time but does enjoy bath time and being on the changing table.
Ethan had a week with a few nights where he slept 11 hours straight, but then he got sick and we haven't returned to these good nights yet. He usually takes three little cat naps, around 30 minutes each, during the day. Thankfully he is content to fall asleep in various locations. We have not started Ethan on solid food yet.
James is transforming into quite the little boy. He seems so grown up when he talks and asks questions or follow directions or sings to himself. There are still moments when he seems very young though, like when we've finished reading at night and he grabs his blanket and sticks his thumb into his mouth and looks up at me to sing him a song. James is a momma's-boy and if I'm around, he wants to be held. He has a goofy streak and likes to make silly faces and say words that he knows are nonsense. James likes to play with balls and anything with wheels. He loves to color and be read to.
James is getting much better about eating. Vegetables are still a struggle but he's finally eating fruit. He loves to drink milk and asks for it when he's hungry or sleepy. James sleeps from 8:00 pm until 7:00 am and naps 2-3 hours every afternoon. He is wearing size 24 month or 2T clothes and size 5 diapers.
Claire's favorite thing to do these days is dress up. Though she has a box of dress up clothes, she prefers to dress up with her own clothes. She chooses some very interesting combinations and never finishes a day in the clothes that I picked out that morning. She has a vivid imagination with her pretend play. More and more, she is incorporating James into her little games and scenarios. He's usually happy to join in but doesn't always do things how Claire expects, which leads to some frustration. It is really sweet when they are talking and laughing together.
Claire is doing well at preschool and seems to especially enjoy the art projects and music time. She has been learning Christmas songs for a little performance next week. She looks forward to dance class all week and dances around our house every day. Claire naps occasionally and usually sleeps from 8:15 pm until 7:30 am. She is wearing size 4T clothes.
We have had a lot of fun with the seasonal festivities. Fall activities included decorating, reading seasonal books, attending festivals, drinking hot apple cider, and dressing up for various Halloween parties. So far the Christmas season has been full of listening to music, decorating, lighting our Advent candles, and watching "Rudolph" and the Charlie Brown Christmas Special on television.
