Claire had her six month checkup last Friday. The doctor said that she is doing great developmentally. Claire weighs 18 pounds, 9 ounces (75th percentile) and measures 27 inches (90th percentile). For the first time, Claire cried a little during the exam portion of the visit. She received three shots and an oral vaccine, so she cried for that too. The doctor was impressed at how well she is sitting up for her age and said that Claire will probably be crawling by her next checkup at nine months.
Speaking of crawling, Claire is looking closer every day! Last week she learned how to push up on her hands and knees, getting her belly off of the floor. Over the weekend she started rocking back and forth in this position. She looks ready to take off any minute now!
She has one tooth (her bottom right) that started showing on September 27th. It's now visible when she smiles which is so cute! She wasn't particularly fussy during the teething, so hopefully they will all come in that easily! She really enjoys the rice cereal--opens her mouth wide when the soon is still several inches away. It gets a little messy when she gets excited and blows bubbles into the spoon. We're still giving her just one Tablespoon of rice cereal at a time, but now we're giving it to her twice a day. The doctor said that we can try a fruit or vegetable after 2-3 weeks of the cereal. We will wait 3-5 days before introducing new foods to watch for any negative reactions to the new food.
Claire loves going to the park and swinging in the baby swings. She doesn't really laugh yet, but gives some excited squeals and big smiles. She enjoys seeing other children at the park, church, and Kindermusik. She likes hearing me sing and will often try to sing along when we're at home. Claire can sit up and keep her balance for several minutes at a time. Yesterday she and Matt enjoyed playing with her stacking cups for a long time. Those and other toys are much more fun to play with when you're not on your tummy or back!
